Save the Bees is evolving – and we need your help!

If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know we’re passionate about saving the bees. We’ve been working with charity partners and fundraising for over a decade to save these precious pollinators from dramatic decline. After launching our Save the Bees campaign in 2011, we created our naturally nourishing Bee Lovely range in 2012 and since have donated 3% of sales from the collection to bee conservation charities.

An exciting new chapter for Save the Bees

Back in March, our co-owner Anabel Kindersley spearheaded the next phase of our long-standing Save the Bees campaign. Over the past two years, the government has issued temporary reauthorisations of the toxic pesticide thiamethoxam as an emergency measure for the sugar beet crop. In response, Anabel rallied the support of over 55 British businesses and organisations to co-sign her open letter delivered to 10 Downing Street, calling for a total ban on bee-killing neonicotinoid.

After the overwhelming success of the letter, Anabel hosted a Bee Symposium on 21 June at Camley Street Natural Park, bringing together environmental experts and industry leaders to discuss the devastating effects of toxic pesticides on wildlife, farming and pollinators. The panel and attendees explored tangible ways of working with nature to protect the UK’s population and encouraged all businesses and organisations to use their voices and platforms to drive meaningful change.

Why this campaign is so important

The toxicity of neonicotinoid pesticides used today are 7,000 times more damaging than DDT – an insecticide banned in the 1990s due to its adverse environmental effects and potential human health risks. What’s more, just a single teaspoon of neonicotinoid pesticide is enough to kill 1.25 billion bees. But beyond our precious bee species, we need to protect our soils, waterways and wildlife, which are poisoned by chemical cocktails used in modern farming – and change has never been more pressing.

Our petition to cut hazardous pesticides and support nature-friendly farming

Now, we’ve launched a parliamentary petition to set a national target for reducing pesticides, cutting toxicity levels and supporting farmers to adopt alternative approaches to pest management. We’re aiming to gather 100,000 signatures to bring the issue to debate in parliament and raise awareness among the public.

Sign the petition and help us reach our target!

NYR x Bella Freud for Save the Bees

As the campaign supporters extend further and wider than the beauty industry, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with iconic British designer Bella Freud, who has designed an exclusive T-shirt in her signature style to help support our precious pollinators. Made in Dorset from 100% soft organic cotton, this limited-edition classic white T-shirt pays homage to our humble yet vital bee. All proceeds will be donated to bee conservation and nature-friendly farming initiatives.
